What is Smart Cities Conference?
The Smart Cities Conference is an initiative dedicated to open, inclusive, formal and informal dialogue on Smart Cities issues among all interested stakeholders. It was built from the organizers’ desire to put into an academic debate different aspects of Romanian cities’ life, but also of the cities outside the country’s borders, through multidisciplinary scientific approaches that will talk about the past, present and future, starting from: acceptance of democracy as the most efficient tool of governance and also acceptance and compliance with the state’s rules.
The participation invitation is addressed to specialists and researchers from all domains of social and humanist disciplines, from political science, communication, legal science, medical science, European integration studies, sociology, to architecture, economy, computer science, cybernetics and many others. It brings together representatives of governments, intergovernmental organisations, private sector, technical community, academia and civil society, with the aim to facilitate multistakeholder discussions, exchanges and collaboration on Smart Cities related issues.
Smart Cities Conference objectives

- Build and strengthen the capacity of these stakeholders to actively participate in national, regional and international Smart Cities developing process.
- Facilitate multistakeholder discussions, exchanges and collaboration on Smart Cities related issues that are of particular concern for stakeholders.
- Contribute to creating linkages between the Smart Cities realities at the national, European and international level.
The first Smart Cities Conference took place on November 28, 2013 under the name Orasul Inteligent (Romanian) - more details here. The years that followed came with new editions of the conference, citizens of Romania and also foreigners becoming more and more aware of its meaningfulness. Therefore, in 2016, 2017 and 2018 the conference gathered together a large number of participants who have understood that an informed society is a smart society. Thus academics, practitioners and also young researchers have presented their ideas and projects that will help create a better common future.
We are confident that this year, the event will bring an even greater impact on the knowledge society, being, from 2016, an international conference, thus offering participants the possibility to compare the situations of the states they live in and come up with recommendations and ideas that will help generate solutions for meeting the challenges of today’s society.
